No, you do not need to be home during your chimney sweep and inspection, but we do require access to your wood-burner or fireplace. If you’re unable to be present, you’re welcome to arrange for a neighbour or friend to unlock the door for us. Alternatively, if you’re comfortable leaving a key in a safe location, that works well too. We’ll handle the sweep professionally and ensure your property is respected throughout.
How should I prepare for my chimney sweep?
Before your chimney cleaning service, please ensure your wood-burner or fireplace is completely cold. If you’re using it the night before, avoid adding wood after 8pm and keep the vents fully open to allow the fire to burn out. It’s safe to leave an inch or two of ash at the base, but please remove any rubbish or non-combustible items.
What type of wood is best for my fire?
For optimal performance and cleaner burns, we recommend using a mix of dry, seasoned hardwoods. Old man pine is acceptable to get your fire started, but it should be followed with a denser hardwood.
